Many congratulations to Phil Mickleson for his 2010 Masters victory at Augusta! With 4 Majors now under his belt including his 3rd Green Jacket Mickleson pipped Lee Westwood in the closing holes of the famous course.
Mickleson's 3rd Green Jacket
“It feels incredible,” Mickelson said. “I could go on and on, there’s so many reasons why, but to win this tournament it’s the most amazing feeling and this is a special day.”
At the presentation of the green jacket, Mickelson added: “I’ll look back on this day as very memorable. It’s something I’ll always cherish.”
Westwood, Europe’s no. 1, having finished 3rd in the 2008 US Open and 3rd in the 2009 Open at Turnbury was hoping for his first Major Success in 2010 and was frustrated to have lost out after leading on the final day at Augusta :
“Whenever you come this close there is a tinge of disappointment,” said Lee, “but Phil was saying he had been the nearly man in the past, finishing second and third before he won. I’ll take the positives and keep persevering until I become a Major winner.”

The turning point was at the 12th where Mickleson birdied and the 13th when Westwood’s tee shot found the pine straw amongst the tree, Mickleson gained momentum and birdied the 15th to lead by 3 shots – the rest as they say is history!
Tiger Woods threatened to close on the leaders in the early stages of the final day but then dropped back leaving the title fight to Mickleson and Westwood.
After day 2 at Augusta, many of us wondered if Ian Poulter would be sporting the colour green, even more confident in his ability after winning the WGC Accenture match-play earlier this year.
“It has helped a lot to win on this side of the pond,” he says. “I’m in a position now where I can go out and be kind of aggressive on the golf course. I’ve done my homework and it’s a nice position to be at.” Sadly Poulter fell behind on day 3 and finshed in joint 10th on a total -5.
